Got Stress? Go to
"Alpha" By Rene Bastarache, CHI It seems that most major and even many minor illnesses can be attributed to stress. From nail biting and panic attacks to stroke and heart attack, stress rears it’s head again and again. Stress comes form many things such as form the schedule you keep, giving yourself unrealistic deadlines, the diets we have, learned behaviors from or emulation of our parents and even in our expectations of ourselves and others with the many “shoulds” we use each day. But, what are you doing about it? Here’s a couple ideas you can use … and I’d like to invite you to share some of your ideas with us… One way is to bring yourself to the alpha brainwave state. Alpha is a light state of relaxation that is slowed down form our busy, every day “beta” self. How do we do that? Simply by bringing yourself to the “now”. There is no stress in the present. Stress comes from the past and the future but not the now. So by going to the now and becoming aware of this very moment, the stress is non-existent. A good way to do this is to focus on a picture or a scenery and describe it in as much detail as you can to yourself or someone else. Get completely into it using your imagination. You will feel the stress just fade away… Another way is to take a deep breath or even several breaths when the stress arises. Deep breathing helps to relax you instantly… I’d like to hear from some of you out there to see what you do for yourselves or maybe your clients or children to alleviate stress … Don’t be shy, you know you want to…
