Of course one reason would be for the networking with other professionals in your field, but the most important reason to join is for some form of validation or regulation by a qualified third party that can document that you are a professional in your field.

     As you may or may not be aware of, presently there is "NO" form of federal regulation for hypnosis professionals.  Neither is certification required to practice hypnosis.  It is simply an add-on that you can get in addition to be a hypnosis practitioner. 

     The certification is your Networking Organization and not the Training Organization.  Many people confuse the Hypnosis School with the Certification.  They are two different entities. Your school trains you according to the knowledge level and understanding of the instructors.  Some schools purchase their manuals from associations that have approved their contents however what is taught is totally at the discretion of the instructor.  Upon graduation most schools will offer a complimentary one years certification membership as an added benefit to it's graduates and you are free to sign up for as many additional certifications as you like by filling out their various applications and sending in your annual dues.

Which is the best to join?  Do you need to join one?  Should you join many?

     Some certifications boast to be the largest, the oldest or even the most prestigious.  Some associate their names with doctors, mental-health professionals and even dentists.  Some offer great benefits, some prestige, some have conferences (if you pay additional fees to membership), magazines, some offer lots of follow-up materials and continued training and others offer politics and involvement if you want to progress within their ranks.  They all claim to be the best and choosing one could be very confusing. 

     How do you choose?  Answer this question first... What do you want out of an association?  Then look for the one that best fits your needs.  As for which one is best... Just like in the automobile industry, Ford is the oldest, Chevrolet has it's benefits, Mercedes is classier, Saturn is a newbie that is very popular, Jaguar has a cute cat on the hood and Hyundai offers many additional gadgets and extras to be more competitive, but they will "ALL" get you to your destination and serve the same purpose in the long run.  So once again, which is best?  They all may claim to be, but that is the way business is.  Which will help you the most with your goals?  The choice is yours.

    Should you have more than one?  Again it is a matter of choice and how many certificates you want to have to decorate your office wall.  Some practitioners have only one, some have several and some have none.  It is a matter of choice once again.

     "Most Associations will accept anyone that pays an annual fee, says they were trained properly and sends a picture of their drivers license to prove they are indeed of the human race."

     Ponder this:  How can any of these associations certify to the highest standard of their members training (which is after all their purpose) if they have never met, trained nor even tested the individuals and have not physically checked into their credentials or background?  This is the exact case with most association benefits that are offered today.  Even though many of these associations do have their own in-house training, they still allow so many outsiders that may not have the proper, or any training at all to join.  After all, in business, the way to grow and make money is by offering your product to as many as possible.  This may be a sound business practice but not a good one in the area of certification!  In other words, "Bigger is not necessarily better!"
