Stop Biting Your Nails Amanda Upton, CHP Biting your nails is your subconscious reaction to nervousness or pressure in your life…your coping mechanism for dealing with stress, things that upset you, general anxiety, maybe even just a way of passing time or any other reason you may think of. You have decided to get rid of this way of handling those emotions and instead focus on dealing with it in a different way. Your new alternative to biting your nails is to simply breathe in very deeply through your nostrils and slowly exhale through your mouth… I’d like you to go ahead and try that. Breathe in very deeply…feeling so nice and relaxed….now exhale through your mouth with a whoosh of air… letting go of anything that would cause you to bite your nails any feeling of anxiety, stress or boredom….
